Meet Annie
We are thrilled to welcome Annika Höfermann (Annie) as part of the Rationale team. Annika joined us in August 2026, bringing eight years of international experience in the shipping industry across market risk analysis, data engineering, reporting, and decision making support.
Over the past two years, Annie has worked remotely as a freelance consultant for shipping firms, developing data, reporting, and decision-support tools while also making the most of consecutive winter seasons between New Zealand and Canada. Her work has seen her partner closely with traders, finance, treasury, and senior management to turn complex information into clear insight and practical decision-making.
Annie has a strong track record of using data to support commercial decisions and deliver practical outcomes. Her experience includes developing analytical tools and reporting frameworks, improving decision-support processes, and contributing to a clearing house change that resulted in significant annual cost savings.
Her contribution across commercial, analytical, and technical roles underscores her ability to translate complex information into clear, accessible insights for a range of audiences. She now brings that data-led approach to Rationale, supporting our clients to understand complex challenges and make well-informed decisions.
Originally from Denmark, Annie moved to New Zealand two years ago and now calls Wānaka home. She recently spent six months in Canada skiing, which says a lot about how she likes to spend her time outside work. She is happiest outdoors and has a soft spot for the kind of adventures that involve a little bit of suffering along the way - long days in the mountains, challenging climbs, cold starts, big missions, and the satisfaction that comes from earning the view.
When she is not analysing numbers, Annika is usually out with her partner Jake skiing, touring, climbing, or tramping somewhere in the mountains. Her appetite for challenge and curiosity fits neatly with the Rationale culture of doing hard stuff for fun.
Annika holds a Bachelor of Business Administration and International Relations from the University of Southern Denmark and a Master of Science in Applied Economics and Finance from Copenhagen Business School. She also holds an IBM Data Analyst Certificate and an Advanced Freight Modelling and Trading Certificate from the Baltic Exchange Academy.
